Orange Park - Fleming Island - Oakleaf Plantation
The town of Orange Park stretches along the Western bank of the St. Johns River directly across from Mandarin, and is connected to Mandarin via the 3.2 mile Buckman Bridge. Orange Park is now Clay County’s largest city. Convenient to Interstates 10, 95, and 295 and the Naval Air Station, many residents have chosen to work elsewhere but to live and raise their families in this “bedroom community”. Clay County’s top rated school system is another big draw.
The area has many recreational activities, a nine mile jogging and mountain biking trail, abundant shopping at Orange Park Mall, and splendid vistas along the St. Johns River or beautiful Doctors Lake. More established neighborhoods are plentiful in Orange Park, with many homes constructed in the 1970s and 1980s.
Fleming Island is an unincorporated area located South of Orange Park along the St. Johns River. The area has a rich history, first settled in the 1700s by George Fleming, who immigrated from Ireland. Today, Fleming Island is a vibrant suburban community featuring beautiful waterfront homes, family oriented neighborhoods, and “A” rated schools. Amenities such as water parks, soccer fields, swimming pools, golf courses, and tennis courts add to Fleming Island’s appeal.
Oakleaf Plantation is really a giant subdivision, but is somewhat unique in that it includes parts of Clay and Duval Counties. Most of the 6,400 acre property, however, is in Clay County, southwest of Jacksonville and adjacent to Jennings State Forest. Several areas offer single family homes and condominiums priced from the $80s to over $500,000. Amenities include two athletic centers and waterpark, an 18-hole championship golf course, and a village retail center.
